Jan Hasenöhrl

Jan Hasenöhrl is a laureate of the international competitions Concertino Praga and Prague Spring. He graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague where he studied with Prof. Václav Junek. Over the course of his artistic career, Jan Hasenöhrl has worked with numerous ensembles and orchestras (National Theatre Opera Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Universal Brass, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra). He became chief trumpet player of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in 1993.

As a soloist and a member of music ensembles, he has performed throughout Europe as well as in Japan, Korea, Mexico, the US, and in five South American countries. The highlights of his solo trumpet career include performances with the English Chamber Orchestra (1998), his appearance in the Chicago Symphony Hall with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra (1998), and in London’s Cadogan Hall with the CNSO (2010). He has also premiered Lalo Schifrin’s Delta Concerto for trumpet and orchestra, which was dedicated to him by the composer in 2011, and last but not least he has performed at the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and given the world premiere of New York Stories, a concertino for trumpet and orchestra composed by Vince Mendoza. 

Jan Hasenöhrl has recorded several solo projects for Czech Radio and Czech Television Art, as well as numerous CDs of Telemann’s and Vivaldi’s concertos and dozens of chamber and symphony music recordings. As a truly versatile artist, Jan Hasenöhrl also plays swing and jazz (CDs: Brassspy, Swing Party, La Parada, White Mulet, Waiting for Art and Trumpet Summit; the Stage Moments project from 2016).

Over the past ten years, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with many jazz stars such as Bobby Shew, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, Antonio Sanchez, John Abercrombie, and as a member of the orchestra with Chick Corea, Natalia Cole and others. One of his most notable recent projects is the foundation of the Loop Jazz Orchestra and their project “Miles Davis and Gil Evans: Miles Ahead”, recorded live for Czech TV. 

Jan Hasenöhrl is the co-founder of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra together with the legendary conductor Zdeněk Košler.
