Marcello Rota

Marcello Rota studied the French horn at the Vivaldi Conservatoire in Alessandria with Giacomo Zoppi, followed by composition with Felice Quaranta and orchestra conducting with Igor Markevitch and Franco Ferrara at the Chigiana Academy in Siena. 

Since his debut with the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Turin, he has repeatedly conducted the San Carlo Orchestra of Naples, the Massimo Theatre Orchestra of Palermo, the “Arena” of Verona and Cagliari, the Genoa Opera, the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra, Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, Swiss Italian Orchestra, the Munich Staatsoper, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Baden-Baden Philharmonie, Galizia Symphony Orchestra, Gran Canaria Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Novaya Rossiya State Symphony Orchestra,  Berliner Symphoniker, and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Since 1995 he has conducted in prestigious concert halls throughout Europe: Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musik Halle in Hamburg, the Royal Albert Hall in London, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels and the Elizabeth Halle in Antwerp, the Philharmonic Halls in Munich, Berlin, Mannheim, the Academy of St Cecilia in Rome, Rome Opera and the Opera of Bologna. He has also given guest appearances with orchestras outside Europe, in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, USA, Australia and New Zealand, he has conducted the Cairo Symphony, Manila Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, among others.

His opera repertoire is extensive, with over forty titles performed and a particular attention for Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini, whose operas he has conducted to much-deserved acclaim from audiences and critics alike. He conducted in La Scala in Milan in 2006/2007 and 2009. Many are the renowned soloists he has worked with, such as Rostropovic, Geringas, Rampal, Galway, Diaz, Sitkovetsky, Baumann, Cecilia Gasdia, Katia Ricciarelli, Mariella Devia, Dinara Alieva, Kiri Te Kanawa, Renato Bruson, Leo Nucci, Nicola Martinucci, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo and Il Volo. 

Since 2004 he is Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague.
