Proms Gala

Proms Gala

Forum Karlín,

Concert to mark the 25th anniversary since Les Misérables premiered in the Czech Republic.

Les Misérables was responsible for triggering a musical boom in the Czech Republic when it was first staged back in 1992, and so we thought it fitting to remember some of the legendary tracks by international and Czech composers performed on local stages over the past 25 years.

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra will perform alongside Thálie Award singers and star guests from a number of theatres in Prague and Brno. Marcello Rota will assume baton duties.

Our orchestra will play compositions from West Side Story, Sunset Boulevard and Chicago,” says Prague Proms festival director and head of the CNSO Jan Hasenöhrl, who will also be performing a trumpet solo aria of Memory from Cats. Soloists Mariána Vojtka, Monika Absolonová, Bára Basiková, Hana Holišová, Pavel Vítek and Jan Kříž will be accompanied by a 50-member mixed chorus and a number of performers from the original Czech versions of Les Misérables, Jesus Christ Superstar and Dracula.

The largest part of the two-hour show will feature arias from Les Misérables including the tracks I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, Bring Him Home and the anthem One Day More.  Songs from other musicals will include Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina from Evita, the gospel Let the Sunshine In from Hair and You are the Rain from Czech musical, Joan of Arc.
