Michel Legrand

Municipal House, Smetana Hall,

It would take quite some time to scroll through all of the awards this artist has won over the years, and you’re sure to be impressed by the huge breadth of styles he has sampled, not to mention the names associated with his career including some absolute legends.

Michel Legrand, pianist, jazzman and composer, was born in 24.2. 1932 and ranks alongside musical greats including Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone and John Williams. Over the course of his incredibly productive life, he has composed music for a total of 210 films, ballets as well as stage music.

Collaborations with other artists include Dissy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Bill Evans and many more.

Let’s take a closer look at some films which will certainly bring a smile to Czech audiences - Married Couple of the Year II, Brian’s Song, Billie Sings the Blues, Tender Scoundrel and Yentl starring Barbra Streisand (for which he won one of three Oscars).

It will be Michel Legrand’s first visit to Prague where he will be welcomed as one of the most exceptional artists to appear at the Prague Proms.
