Jakub Tököly

Jakub Tököly is a slovakian pianist who also works as a composer, arranger and music teacher.

He comes from a family with an extensive musical background, which he chose to follow by studying classical and jazz music at JAMU and the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität in Vienna. During his rich concert career, he performed all across Europe (Switzerland, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy...). He also performed in Israel where he played as a sideman of jazz projects of the CZ&SK scene, as well as occasionally as a member of orchestras and theatres.

He is a permanent member of many groups, including: the Gustav Brom Big Band, Miroslav Hloucal Q, Renata Drössler, Josef Fečo Jazz Family, Ľubomír Gašpar Cimbal Project, Július Baroš Q and the Forman Brothers Theatre. As a guest artist, he also collaborates with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the JazzDock Orchestra.

The end result of Tokoly’s compositional prowess are the albums Different Directions (nominated for Esprit) and Echoes, where he combines the world of jazz and classical music with the Roma influence. These are the musical elements, from which he draws inspiration for his sensitive melodies and sophisticated improvisation skills full of musical colour and temperament.

In the course of his career, he has collaborated with important music personalities such as Antonio Sanchez (MEX), Joan Orleans (USA), Vince Mendoza (USA), Gabor Bolla (HU), Vladimír Kostadinovic (SRB), Juraj Bartoš (SK), Piotr Barron (PL), Steven Mercurio (USA), Ondřej Štveráček (CZ), Ron Affif (USA), Yvone Sanchez (PL), Ossian Roberts (UK), Andy Schofield (UK) and others.

In addition to his concert activities, he also teaches jazz piano at the International Conservatory in Prague.
